Microbe is a shy child, often immersed in his drawings. Gasoil, an inventive and cheeky boy, lands in his class in the middle of the school year. A close friendship immediately develops between them. As summer vacation approaches, the two friends have no desire to spend two months with their families. Making use of a lawn mower and a few planks of wood, they build their own “car” and set off on a road trip adventure through France…

FOCUS ON a Multifaceted Director

Michel Gondry is an award-winning filmmaker, praised on both sides of the Atlantic for films such as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep (La Science des rêves), Be Kind Rewind, Block Party, The Green Hornet and his groundbreaking work in music videos featuring renowned artists such as Daft Punk, The Rolling Stones, Björk, Radio- head, Kylie Minogue, The White Stripes and IAM, among others.

FOCUS ON a Childhood (Dream)

“[To create this film] I combined many memories. Together with a friend of mine, we purchased a used go-cart and spent Sunday afternoons in the parking lot of the grocery store, clocking each other going sixty miles an hour! We had a lot of fun. With another friend, who was even more of an inspiration for Gasoil, we had a project to build a car but it never got off the ground. For this reason the road trip in the film was more of a fantasy. I told myself that making the film would allow me to realize a childhood dream.”-Michel Gondry
